Life in a port city could be cutthroat at the best of times. the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, such was the way of things. No port embodied this as much as Port Durst, the shining jewel of the land. those who walked in the light remarked at how great the city was, always being careful to avert their eyes from what lay in the shadow. it was in this shadow that a Tiefling was born to a human mother and there where they learned where monsters hide. Abomination, beast and demon, these were the names that this tiefling child was first given. Hated as they were the mother, they were never abandoned. Trap both physically and emotionally the child turned to the only one left, themselves. the child spoke to voices in their head which would occasionally speak back, whispering arcane secrets a child had no right to know. One day the whisper spoke of plots made in secret and of fire consuming the sea. They told the child of a light soon to come and of a black road that will block the path. Confused the child ask questions but got no answer. The next time the child heard the whispers, they heard it smile at them. The next thing they remembered was a loud noise and half of the building was gone. Without looking to see what happen to their mother they ran for the first time through the city, their way lit by the flames that grasped at the night sky. For the next few day they hid. From the demons the were attacking the city, from the humans that would kill them because of their horns and from their mother who would cage them once again. when the attacks had lessened, the child went back to the build at which they once lived in only to find rubble. There they sat for what must have been hours wondering what to do when they heard a voice booming outwards as if it hated to be silenced. “Quite brave for a tiefling to be sitting out in the open after what just happened.” The child turned to see a one-eyed, giant of a man staring at them.un sure of what to do next the child just stared back. Sighing the man walked over and squatted next to the tiefling “if you’re not going to say why you’re here then at least give a name, mines Asfrith.” The child just watched him for a few more moments and then said. “My name is Free.”
